My creative space...

After numerous aborted attempts at button holes, the fabric from last week's creative space has ended up in pieces messing up my craft table.
After giving up in disgust, I've begun to contemplate alternative closure options for the backs of these darstedly cushion covers. My current thought is to crochet some loops out of a beige cotton, but I'm open to suggestions that don't involve button holes or zippers!!

However, sewing will not happen today. I don't think my sewing machine truly understands my displeasure yet, and seems to think that having tension issues is a really funny joke....

So instead, I plan to make tomato sauce. With these:
Pay a visit to Kootoyoo to find some slightly more productive creativity....!

I like the idea of the crochet loops & I think some tomato sauce distance is a great idea.

Have you considered velcro? its so forgiving!! x

I can't find anywhere close that stocks Ezy Sauce, which is annoying as my plants are providing more than I need in an average salad.

Sew on snap closures maybe?

You might as well bang out the rest of the frustration on a loaf of bread (just think, all that kneading), then you get to smell the waft of homebaked bread.

PS. I spent years being terrified of a zip, and then tried one of the invisible versions: easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I'm still learning buttonholes... my previous cushion closures involved sewing a tiny press stud on underneath a big button. It totally works, but its cheating a bit...

I too am a velcro fan!

So perhaps you and I should do a 'buttonholes' class together.

Those tomatoes look SO GOOD!

Some my cushions don't have any closure! Just the simple back where one side overlaps the other side. Uses more fabric, but avoids icky buttonholes!

I was going to suggest what Penny said - like a pillowcase...?

Even I can sew zippers (okay.. *ahem* ...even I have sewn A zipper..), so you should give it a whirl. Buttonholes.. now that is an entirely different story.

Other closures:
Snaps
Ribbon
Elastic loops with buttons
Something something pork chops.

Some great suggestions here - I'm a fan of ties or the pillowcase method if you don't want to do buttonholes or zippers. P.S. If your sewing machine needs a little grease and oil change, Camberwell Sewing Centre on Burke Road is brill - the husband does the servicing and the wife shows people how to sew - even buttonholes!

He he he, your buttonholes photo makes me laugh (not being mean and nasty though). The buckled fabric, the wayward cotton strands. I love it!

Try sewing on large snap closures (there are really cool) to keep the opening closed, then you can sew your buttons on the outer layer (where the snap closure is) as decorative, with no need for buttonholes! Plus its all hand sewing, so is easy.

Looks like that tomato sauce will turn out a beautiful dep colour.
