my creative space(?)

Today I'm attempting to improve the underlay for my ironing board. When I was attaching the interfacing for the bag I made, I noticed that I managed to get a 'lovely' crisscross pattern kind of embossed onto the fabric. It wass possibly because my very cheap ironing board cover is about 8 years old and the underlay is no longer doing it's job.

As is often the case, Gina has come to the rescue and provided a thrifted woollen* blanket that I plan to cut into and use as additional padding. I'm thinking 2 layers will be enough, but it might end up needing 3. We'll see!
Sadly, I'm not replacing the very (un)attractive ironing board cover - it's still functioning fine.

For some rather more visually appealing creative spaces, visit Kirsty.

*I tested it last night by cutting a small piece off and trying to set it on fire. It just fizzed out so it must be wool!

Good old Gina. What we we all do without her? She is saving the day all over the place.

I noticed the ? after the creative space title. This is a creative space. A properly functioning ironing board is a must have for any crafty person.

So true Melanie! I am embarrassed to admit I often iron on the floor, with a towel or some such glamourous item. Must get the ironing board sorted! And I need a new iron. Glad to see you are getting your ironing act together, hopefully it will inspire me! xo

I love that you went to the trouble to actually set something on fire! That's serious commitment to creativity.

You fire bug you! ;)

Seriously though, there is nothing like a bit of practical crafting!

Well thank goodness for friends...I hope it all works out perfectly despite the little mishap. I hate ironing :P

I am a floor ironer too, the ironing board just gets more crap dumped on it if it is set up. We set fire to a bit of our curtains recently to test them and the lining failed so I have to cut it all out. Happy Thursday.

Dilly you never cease to be a wealth of useful information. I had no idea about wool not burning. Although I guess that's why you'd want to line an ironing-board with it, DUH!

Clever, practical and I learnt something (good idea re testing the blanket) - two thumbs up, and would you mind popping over and giving my sad old ironing board cover the same treament?! Nice collab work with Gina too! Nic xx

Eek, what would you have done if it had caught alight? I'm so glad it didn't! I'd say your ironing board is an essential part of any creative space. : )

encouraged by the fact that you fixed your old one and did not run out and buy a whole new thing!

Why are the majority of ironing board covers soo......unnatttractive.
Mine is covered in bits of the sticky stuff left over from iron-on interfacings ...

Such a simple idea but I had never thought about it. Like you, I have been spying the lovely crisscross pattern on my clothes and fabrics and kept thinking "I must replace the soft stuff"... but didn't know what with and didn't want to spend lots of $$$$. So now I'm off to the Op Shop!
