my creative space

It's washcloth central here at the moment. I only need to have one to send to my lucky (?) recipient, but I figure if I do several, I'll send the best one and use the rest here! Lots of different strategies are being tried, including different yarns, different hooks, and an attempt at knitting (not winning the excellence race at this point)!
Hopefully I'll have one I'm satisfied with before too long, so I can start some other things. Like...
...knitting a swatch for a test knit that I've signed up for!?! I figure I've signed up to be the novice knitter guinea pig. Ahem.

I need to use worsted weight yarn, and needles to get 5 stitches per inch. I figure I'll start on 5mm needles and see what happens!?! I found the yarn above in a suitcase that has been given into my temporary custody which is filled with a whole lot of yarn collected in the UK several years ago. I think this yarn is Rowan Aran weight, and I have 278g of this colourway. I'm hoping it will be enough for a 2yr old's cardi! Please tell me if this is completely unrealistic, as I can force myself to visit Sunspun again if I absolutely have to ;-)

They look lovely, love the colors....I really need to get some of these made up myself I am sure they come in handy..Good Luck on getting that Perfect one..I would be scared to start the cardi not knowing for sure if it will work out lol..My guess would be to make one up in a yarn that you have plenty of first...

Those washcloths look lovely. Last swap I crocheted mine but this time I want to knit it so I'm making many and sending the best one off too. Good luck for that cardi.

I think I'd just end up admiring my rainbow of wash cloths rather than using them for the purpose for which they were created, they are so nice..makes my dodgy ugly old sponge look..well just that really. Peta

Hmn. Why don't you pop on over to Ravelry and check out some similar sort of patterns? 278gm is sort of coming over 'right on the borderline' to me! Or you could just leave the arms til last, then do a sudden and unexpected conversion to vest with matching hat?!

Can you please please please post about your dishcloth making? I'd be really interested to know what pattern you found the best, the easiest, what cotton you recommend, the cheapest, you get the idea. I want to know everything!

And good for you for signing up for the test knitting. What a great way to challenge yourself and improve your skills. Good luck.
